Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a condition where blood glucose levels rise substantially and remain high in general. This happens due to a growing inability to move glucose from the blood into cells for use as energy or when an overworked pancreas produces less insulin to remove the glucose.
Uncontrolled diabetes 2 levels leads up to chronically high blood glucose levels that can cause symptoms and potentially to very serious complications.
Symptoms for type 2 diabetes:
Type 2 diabetes is a condition that usually develops slowly over a very long time and sees a gradual rise in average blood glucose levels. This prelude period to diabetes is called ‘prediabetic’ and can carry with it some early warning signs that are generally ignored.
Early signs can include:
– frequent urination, two or more trips to the loo at night
– gradual weight gain and increased difficulty to lose weight
Later symptoms may include:
– constant hunger
– low energy
– fatigue
– excessive thirst and dry mouth
– blurry vision
– pain, tingling, or numbness in your hands or feet
As diabetes type 2 develop further its symptoms and risk of complications increases.
Complications for prolonged high glucose levels can include:
– eye problems – diabetic retinopathy
– feelings of numbness in your extremities, or neuropathy
– kidney disease – nephropathy
– gum disease
– heart attack or stroke
